Unconnected thoughts...

One of the more gratifying bits of recognition I've received as a photographer is the ongoing support of the folks at NuExpo.com -- the French art nude online magazine that ran an profile on me a while ago. Every so often, they pick a few recent shots and put me in the rotation on their homepage, alongside some of the world's best and well-known photographers. They then add the shots to my gallery next to my original interview. (Read the English text here.) The most recent selection features Tia, Char Rose, and Sweet Romance. So, once again, Bonjour à mes amies a NuExpo.com!

On another "worthy cause" front, print media is in pretty deep trouble these days... companies are cutting back on advertising in magazines and newspapers, people are used to content being free to the point where they won't pay for magazines or websites, and so many different specialized publications sprung up that the market is overcrowded. Sadly, some of the better publications are having tough times. Paste Magazine is one of them... Paste is a music magazine that covers "music for grownups" for lack of a better word, and does it quite well. But they're in a bind, so they're asking for donations to help keep them afloat for a while. The upside is, if you donate, you'll get access to a "vault" of over 70 rare songs by some pretty cool artists, such as Ben Folds, The Minus 5, Robyn Hitchcock, Bob Pollard, Decemberists, Cowboy Junkies, and tons more. So, toss them what you'd pay for one CD at Best Buy and get about 7 CDs worth of cool new music instead.

If you don't, Jessa will be as sad as she appears to be in this picture...

Bonjour NuExpo.com visitors ...encore!

Saw that the good folks over at NuExpo.com picked three more of my shots to feature on their main page. Merci beaucoup to models Lisolette, Evearella, and IXI Burlesque. By the way, if you click on the "Interview" link, you'll get to read their French translation... if you're interested in the original English, read it here. Merci encore, NuExpo!

Musings on Danaid

Got a nice surprise the other morning when I saw that NuExpo.com has again featured one of my shots as the main image on their website, giving prominent credit to the model, Danaid. I'm sure it was more about featuring her than me (just based on the size of the type) but I would totally support that decision, as she's an outstanding model who's made me look good whenever we've worked together.

She's a trained artist with quite a bit of experience with sculpture, which she is able to translate into her modeling -- she is especially a fan of Rodin (hence the name Danaid) and she reflects his unabashed sensibilities when she poses. I first met her at a Collingwood group shoot where we immediately hit it off and seemed to speak the same language. A true art model, she has no real interest in fashion or glamour work, but instead is more intent on form and line, light and shadow, texture and sensuality. She's going back to school to pursue her MFA, and sadly, some changes in her personal life have pretty much put a halt to her modeling, but we do keep in touch, and I do maintain hope that we'll get to work together again at some point.

So, for all the NuExpo.com visitors, here's a collection of some of my work with Danaid. Enjoy responsibly.

And Danaid, thanks for everything, and for making me look good.

Bonjour NuExpo.com readers...

Welcome to readers of France's NuExpo.com online photography magazine...

For everyone else, you can check out the feature/interview here, even though it's been translated into French. The Altavista translation back to English is pretty comical, so I think I'll post the original English text of it as a comment to this entry if you'd care to read it. Probably still pretty comical.

Thanks to the models whose photos are featured: Dreamscapes (above), Rose, Sabrina, London Andrews, Zinn Star, Amaya, Plain Jayne Jones, Sativa/Nikki, Penny, Carlotta Champagne, and Engel Schrei. Also, thanks to Dave Levingston for the "in action" photo that is somehow the largest image in the feature, LOL. And thank you François from NuExpo.com for inviting me to be a part of your outstanding publication.
