Almost Famous

Not to turn this into a book review blog, but an item I'd pre-ordered back in October arrived yesterday, My Favorite Model, from Goliath books. Subtitled "43 outstanding photographers portray 44 gorgeous models" it is a collection of 8-10 page chapters from each photographer. I know BT had submitted a set of shots of the gorgeous JJ, but sadly his isn't included. Each section has a one-page "interview" survey from each model, and a little photo/blurb of each of the photographers is included in the back. I had expected that there would be at least a paragraph from each photographer explaining why the model they chose is his/her favorite, but that seems to be lacking. Perhaps they were all pretty much the same: "This model inspires me to do my best work, and we really connect creatively." Or maybe they just figured people would rather see more pictures and less text (especially since it might need to be translated into 5 languages, as the introduction is).

Included in the book are three models I have had the pleasure of working with. Carlotta Champagne graces the book's cover (above), and is really the consummate professional, while still being charming and "real" and looks amazing in anything, or nothing at all.
I just recently worked with Liz Ashley for the first time, which I hope won't be the last. Also very professional and friendly, she brought a lot of ideas to the studio, and did all she could to ensure a successful shoot.
Third alphabetically, but second to none, Sativa Verte is also included in the book. Always lots of laughs with Sativa, and I've always felt we got great stuff together. She lives in NYC, but has family in Ohio, so I'm lucky enough to have worked with her several times, and am looking forward to doing so again soon.
Congratulations on your inclusion in the book... you're certainly three favorites of mine!

"The New Erotic Photography" arrives...

Received my copy of "The Mammoth Book of the New Erotic Photography" today, and it's really a beautiful collection of work. I'm very pleased and proud to be included, and would like to thank my models who appear in the book: Danaid, Sweet Romance, Iris, Mosh, Zinn Star (above), and Sativa. I would also like to thank editor Maxim Jakubowski for inviting me to participate, and for doing such a fine job putting everything together and making sure the finished product looked great. Congratulations to all the other photographers and models who are included as well, especially Chas Ray Krider for his cover shot of Trishii.

It's really a beautiful book, and even if I wasn't involved, I'd urge anyone with an appreciation for provocative photos of women (men are almost entirely absent from the images) to pick up a copy either from Amazon, or it should be on the shelves of major bookstores very soon now.

Bonjour NuExpo.com readers...

Welcome to readers of France's NuExpo.com online photography magazine...

For everyone else, you can check out the feature/interview here, even though it's been translated into French. The Altavista translation back to English is pretty comical, so I think I'll post the original English text of it as a comment to this entry if you'd care to read it. Probably still pretty comical.

Thanks to the models whose photos are featured: Dreamscapes (above), Rose, Sabrina, London Andrews, Zinn Star, Amaya, Plain Jayne Jones, Sativa/Nikki, Penny, Carlotta Champagne, and Engel Schrei. Also, thanks to Dave Levingston for the "in action" photo that is somehow the largest image in the feature, LOL. And thank you François from NuExpo.com for inviting me to be a part of your outstanding publication.

Just out... 2008 Calendar

Shortly after Christmas, I remembered that I hadn't purchased a calendar for 2008 yet, so I decided to put one together real quick and print a couple for myself on Lulu. Mentioned it to a friend, and she asked to buy a couple as well. Just got my copies yesterday, and they turned out quite nice, so despite being a bit late in calendar season, I'm making it available to purchase. It has 12 different B&W shots, including Tiana (above), Sarah Ellis, Malinda, Sativa Verte, Orrix, Penny, Mandy, Katie, Valentine, and Lisolette. Not really any theme other than 12 shots I really like that happen to be horizontal. :)

Support independent publishing: buy this book on Lulu. So, here's your chance to spend 2008 with some of my favorite models. Act now and you get the special bonus day of February 29 at no extra charge.

Dirty Nine

Just got word today that a couple of my shots were accepted to hang in this year's Dirty Show. Still hearing from some other folks about their entries, including Andi who also got two pieces in the show after I twisted her arm to enter... congratulations Andi! Now February doesn't seem so far away... gotta get stuff ready!

Another good part about being in the show is the opportunity to participate in the "museum store" where I'll have a variety of "loose prints" and possibly a couple framed pieces, and maybe a few copies of the book, and who knows what else?

This shot is Sativa, an image I entered that wasn't chosen. I'll keep the selected ones under wraps until after the show, as usual. It's running over two weekends this time, From the "big opening" party on February 8th until the 16th, so make plans to attend. Detroit is so enchanting in mid-February...
